ABOUT mike

I’ve spent the last 15 years as an entrepreneur and angel investor, focused on building and supporting innovative consumer tech and product companies. But before diving into startups, my career path took some interesting turns — I spent time on a mortgage trading desk and at a top talent agency, gaining a unique perspective on business, strategy, and deal-making.

At my core, I’m a builder — whether I’m launching my own ventures or helping others bring their ideas to life. In 2009, I co-founded Fast Society, one of the first mobile group messaging apps, alongside Matthew Rosenberg and Andy Thompson. We set out to make group texting seamless (yes, that wasn’t a thing yet) and evolved the platform to include automated video montages, which led us to our next big venture: Cameo.

After nearly two years of development, Cameo launched in late 2013, powered by a first-of-its-kind cloud-based video rendering engine. The app was recognized as an Editor’s Pick in the App Store and later named one of Apple’s Best Apps of 2013. In 2014, Vimeo acquired Cameo, where I continued leading the team, scaling the platform to over 2 million users, and spearheading the Cameo Music Program, a library of over 350 royalty-free tracks from 200+ artists.

At Vimeo, I later transitioned into a Platform Strategy role, working closely with executive leadership on M&A transactions (including the VHX acquisition) and developing new business initiatives, including a subscription video-on-demand service.

After two years at Vimeo, I felt the itch to build something new. In 2016, I founded PRNCPLS, a personal care brand designed to bring harmony and balance to everyday essentials. Alongside designer Jessica Humphrey, we launched a line of oral care products — conceptualized, developed, and brought to market entirely by the two of us. While PRNCPLS ultimately wound down in 2019, the journey reinforced my love for building brands from the ground up.

That same year, I met Russ Wallace, who had been working on an idea for a modern family-focused product line — starting with an innovative diaper. As a father and product builder, I was immediately drawn to the concept, and together, we co-founded Freestyle. The brand launched in summer 2022 and, in just 18 months, expanded to over 1,500 retail locations, including a nationwide rollout with Whole Foods. And this is only the beginning.

Alongside my own ventures, I’ve been an active angel investor and advisor, supporting early-stage companies like Parlor Coffee, Comrad Socks, Baboon, Cadence, and Vacation. As the first investor in Parlor Coffee, I’ve worked closely with the CEO for over 12 years, helping shape its growth and strategy.

Beyond my work, I’m a husband to Laura, father to Mikey (7) and Lillie (4), and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the Art of Jiu Jitsu Academy. I believe in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, fostering a positive mindset, and constantly striving for growth—because every day is an opportunity to build something great.
